Contrasting colours and refined details
Bathroom tiling can be much more than a practical surface finish. With carefully selected materials and colours, it can become the defining feature of an entire interior.
In this project, deep emerald-green marble-effect tiles with dramatic copper and gold-toned veining were combined with light stone-effect surfaces to create a distinctive contemporary bathroom. The contrast brings depth and character to the space while maintaining a balanced overall design.
Statement Tiling Across the Shower and Bath Areas
One of the most striking aspects of this installation is the use of the same richly patterned tiles in two separate areas.Within the shower enclosure, the emerald-green tiles cover the walls, creating a dramatic and immersive finish. Their glossy surface and intricate veining introduce movement and texture, complemented by brushed metallic shower fittings.
The design continues behind the freestanding bath, where the marble-effect tiles form a feature wall. Repeating the material helps connect the two areas and gives the bathroom a cohesive appearance.
Creating Balance with Contrasting Finishes
Boldly patterned tiles work particularly well when paired with simpler surrounding materials. In this bathroom, light stone-effect tiles provide a neutral contrast to the darker feature surfaces. Their understated appearance allows the green and gold-toned patterns to stand out without making the overall design feel overwhelming.
The combination creates a modern interior that feels both distinctive and refined.
An Illuminated Recessed Shower Niche
The shower incorporates a recessed tiled niche with integrated lighting, providing practical storage while introducing an additional design feature. The niche is finished using matching marble-effect tiles, allowing it to blend naturally into the surrounding wall. Its illuminated edges highlight the rich colours and detailed veining of the tiles, adding depth and visual interest to the shower area.Installation and Finishing Details
Large-format marble-effect tiles require careful setting out, particularly when working with highly patterned surfaces.Tile positioning, joint alignment and transitions between different finishes all influence how the completed design appears. Additional consideration is needed around the recessed niche, corners and shower fittings.
Suitable surface preparation, waterproofing and installation materials are also essential to ensuring the tiled areas perform reliably in a moisture-rich environment.
A Distinctive Contemporary Bathroom
This project demonstrates how bold tile selection can transform a bathroom into a statement interior. The combination of emerald-green marble-effect tiles, contrasting light finishes, brushed metallic details and an illuminated shower niche creates a memorable design across both the shower and bathing areas.
The completed installation brings together striking aesthetics, everyday practicality and professional tiling workmanship, delivering a contemporary bathroom with a distinctive character.
